This is the fifth tip from my article (here) in which I share 7 tips to world class performance based on Felix Baumgartner’s ‘jump from the edge of space’.
Baumgartner broke many records that day but he pulled his shute after just 4 minutes 16 seconds. He had no reason to other than to preserve the record his mentor Joe Kittinger (pictured) had set 50 years earlier for the longest free fall duration.
Felix had achieved enough and honoured his mentor by this gesture. How much is enough for you? For those old enough do you remember the question Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) asks Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) in the original version of Wall Street (watch here)
How many yachts can you water ski behind? That question has stuck with me since 1987. I don't know why, but I am aware I am surrounded by people that endlessly pursue more, without realising it may come at the cost of what they value most... their family, their health, their legacy. I have got caught in this trap too.
Contrary to Gekko's answer to Fox life can be a positive sum game. We can all win. Humility is key to that. 😊
