The riskiest thing you can do is play it safe

"The riskiest thing you can do is play it safe." Seth Godin

I read, watch and listen to everything I can from entrepreneur and 19 x best-selling author Seth Godin.

In the following video interview Seth differentiates between the safety zone and the comfort zone:

Humans too often equate comfort with safety, according to Seth. As a result we like to dwell in places where we are comfortable.

However in a world of exponential change the longer we stay in our comfort zone the less safe we become.

Staying comfortable is actually more dangerous.

The safer thing to do is get out of our comfort zone and take more risk.

Learn new skills.

Expand your networks.

Take on new responsibilities.

Have more real conversations.

Ask for feedback, etc etc.

Seth says...

"If what you did today wasn't hard, then you probably didn't create enough value because you probably didn't expose yourself to enough risk and fear."

If you are not creating value your employer or clients will eventually find a cheaper version of you.
