"The most radical thing we can do is connect people to one another. That starts conversations toward a vision for change." Rosabeth Moss Kanter is well qualified to make this comment having been a super connector in her capacity as professor at Harvard Business School.
Fascinating research by sociology professor Ron Burt backs this up. Ron found the number one predictor of career success was not intelligence, drive, experience or attitude. Professor Burt found the number one predictor of career success related to connections. More specifically he found half of the difference in career success (i.e., promotion, compensation, industry recognition) is due to the structure of one's networks.
The most successful people had what he called 'open networks', i.e. broad, deep and connected. In such networks the power resides in those that connect these diverse communities together.
