The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way

"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius was a second century Roman Emperor and stoic philosopher.

The stoics came from all walks of life: slaves, emperors, water carriers, famous playwright, merchants, Senators and soldiers.

What they all had in common was the philosophy that they practiced.

Regardless of their circumstances they focused not on the external world but on what was solely in their own control: their own thoughts, their own actions, their beliefs.

Fred Kofman describes this approach beautifully as 'response-ability', i.e. not being responsible for your circumstances but always response-able in the face of your circumstances.
