"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." T.S. Elliot
Have you ever met someone that stretches your brain so much that it never goes back to the way it was? Dr Andy Walshe was one of those people in my life.
For many years he was the High Performance Director at Red Bull working with 1000's of athletes, artists and performers helping them be the best versions of themselves.
I have written about Andy's research numerous times given how much he has impacted my thinking, e.g.: (see here)
This quote is super relevant to his evolution work where he takes people to the 'perceived' edge of their capacity.
Andy's deep belief is that unless you train at the edge you will never know how much you've got in the tank.
Makes you wonder about so much of the corporate training that companies spend billions on around the world every year. Very rarely in my experience does this work take participants even remotely to the edge.
How much value and development are we missing out on by playing safe and staying in the comfort zone? Something for all leaders to consider.
