"It's not that we need more female leaders. It's that we need more leaders that act like females... & women just happen to be better at that." Simon Sinek
Sinek is not the first to take this view. A number of years ago I heard Professor of Global Business Raj Sisodia talk about the rise of feminine values. Sisodia says that traditional business leadership overemphasizes masculine values. To get ahead of the pack we must embrace our feminine values.
The companies Raj studied as part of his groundbreaking Conscious Capitalism research outperformed the S&P500 by 14 times over a 15 year period. One of the key characteristics of these successful firms was their alignment with what are traditionally seen as feminine values- love, care, compassion, nurturing, building relationships, holistic approaches, & win-win outcomes.
Ultimately Raj says “we need leadership today that is a true blend of the best of the mature masculine & mature feminine qualities for the overall well-being of mankind.”
Back to Sinek, yes women typically do 'female traits' better & men 'male traits' BUT not always AND regardless of our gender we can ALL learn to embrace the best of both.
