If you want to be an agent of change and transformation you must have a higher standard for yourself
"If you want to be an agent of change and transformation you must have a higher standard for yourself than anyone else." Dr Peter Fuda
Another great provocation from Fuda, the mastermind behind business & leadership transformations all around the world.
The best thing about adopting this approach, according to Peter, is that everybody else will always be running to catch up!
The Gandhi-esque slogan "be the change you wish to see in the world" comes to mind. Such an approach is as relevant at home as at work.
As a father of five I have tried every way I know, using all my knowledge as a psychologist, to change or transform my kids' behaviour.
My conclusion... it can't be done. Only my kids can change their behaviour. The choice is theirs.
However, there is much I can do to the environment around them to encourage their behaviour. And one of the most powerful things I can do is be a role model. "We can't be what we don't see" is another wonderfully cliched but relevant quote along the same lines.
So next time you are frustrated by those in your team not behaving, instead of focusing on their actions an alternative approach is to double down on yours.
Set your own bar higher & hold your line.
