"Here is how to ask for feedback... don't! Instead, ask for advice." Daniel Pink

According to Pink in the video linked below "people love being asked for advice, it's flattering".

On the other hand people don't love being tough and critical, even when justified.

This reminds me of Marcus Buckingham and Ashley Goodall's brilliant insights in their book Nine Lies About Work.

Buckingham says people don't want feedback, they want coaching. People want to know how they can be better.

That sounds like great advice to me.
