"Culture describes how things are really done around here. Strategy doesn't tell us that." HBS Professor Frances Frei
As the COVID19 cloud lifts in Australia & New Zealand many organisations are turning their focus to developing a winning strategy that will help them reboot growth, retool their company, and reenergise their people.
A worthwhile endeavour no doubt, but by no means sufficient.
The pandemic has certainly impacted what companies do (strategy) but in my experience the exponentially greater impact has been on how companies do it (culture).
There have been many great gains on the 'how' front, not to mention some losses. Locking in the wins and actively addressing the losses will be key to how companies recover.
After all the world has been thru this year, what a tragedy if we just go back to the way things were.
To paraphrase Churchill 'Let's not waste this crisis'.
