During Patty’s time at Netflix as Chief Talent Officer the company reinvented itself twice moving to a DVD by mail service and then to today’s streaming subscription model.
To do so required Patty to think very differently about talent. She needed to think ahead not to the skills they needed more of based on current demand but for the talent they’d need 6 months down the track.
With the fast pace of innovation in business today, all companies should be thinking this way.
Patty suggests all leaders do the following.
1) Imagine six months from now you have the most amazing team you have ever assembled.
2) Write down what the team will be accomplishing six months from now.
3) How are things being done differently.
Go hire for that and build ”the best team for the future you are creating”.
